Applying scandinavian design principles on smart shopping

Backround

Scart is a redesign of a supermarket shopping cart with the aim of reflecting specific values in the design of the trolley. Through study of various design styles, the core elements of a particular direction were worked out and transferred to the product. The focus is on the design language and the associated values of the brand or style direction. We took an in-depth look at exemplary brands from the furniture and living area of Scandinavian design. We analyzed their products in terms of design language and worked out colors and materials.

Colors, shapes and the materials used have their origins in Scandinavian nature and culture. The findings were transferred to a smart supermarket shopping cart.

The shapes have no sharp edges but appear calm and gentle. Elements made of wood convey quality and naturalness.  Elements made of powder-coated metal convey robustness, while areas such as the rubber handle are inviting to touch. The technology should act as a silent helper without distracting, so the display integrates unobtrusively into the overall appearance of the shopping trolley.
A built-in smart camera records the food placed in the shopping basket and checks it directly into the system.  The technology is charged via a USB-C cable, which is rolled up on a reel and stowed in the body of the monitor while shopping.  After closing time, the Scarts can be pushed into each other and charged in series.
The supermarket cart is accompanied by an app. It allows the user to create shopping lists or weekly plans at home and find out about offers or the nearest supermarket.
Once they arrive at the supermarket, all they have to do is check in with their profile and they are given a personalized route through the supermarket to get all the products on their shopping list. The ayment process also runs via the connected app. All products are registered by the built-in camera.
